Required Costume Components
The following costume components are present and appear as described below.
Helmet
Painted in dark gunmetal satin black.
Asymmetrical with 5 chrome/silver ridges contouring the eye opening.
Wearer's eyes and face are blacked out with sheer fabric.
Proportional to the wearer.
Weathered to match screen accuracy.
Helmet has textured finish consistent with reference material.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
The holes between the ridges in the cheeks are lined with a black material attached to the inside of the helmet.
The helmet must be weathered and should match the visual references of this CRL as closely as possible, both in colors, damage, and weathering patterns.
Cape, Cowl, and Hood
Made from black basketweave or monk's cloth.
Fabric weave consists of no more than 8 squares per inch and no less than 3.
Worn on top of the surcoat.
Hood is large enough to accommodate the helmet.
Edges of the cape are frayed.
Hood is worn up, double-layered with a front seam.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
The hood is double layered resulting in a seam along the front edge.
Surcoat
Made from black basketweave or monk’s cloth.
Is sleeveless, with floor-length panels.
Constructed with four skirt panels that conceal the legs.
Seams are designed to be inconspicuous.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
The upper half:
Is constructed of two panels which are sewn together along the front, wearer's right side, and back.
Has an inconspicuous closure located on the wearer's left side.
If a seam is present at the shoulders it should be constructed in a way that it is inconspicuous.
The top of the surcoat extends slightly past the apex of the wearer's shoulder.
The arm opening is constructed such that the fabric is rolled to the inside and sewn back onto itself; there is no noticeable resulting seam.
The rear skirt panels have two vertical pleats right and left of center and directly below the belt.
OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable):
The basket weave is coated or waxed such that it has a reflective sheen without significantly altering the drape of the fabric (more rigid).
The weave is an equal 2x2 pattern with 4 squares per square inch.
The weave is also slightly see through.
A small zipper at the neckline that is no longer than 4 inches.
Under Tunic
Made from matte black midweight cotton.
Constructed with approximately 40 horizontal pleats.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Made from a canvas with an even basic weave.
Piping is a twill weave.
The under tunic is constructed with one split at the front starting at the belt.
Piping adorns the following sections:
Front center
Side seams
Both arm hole
Collar
Front center hidden zipper has piping identical to the sleeves.
Sleeved Shirt
Sleeves are made from matte black canvas.
The sleeves are form-fitting and extend past the wrist.
Constructed with approximately 35 pleats.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Made from thick canvas with an even basic weave.
Piping is a twill weave.
The sleeves are sewn to the shirt and should be recessed slightly from the arm opening on the under tunic.
Piping is present down the seam where the zipper is present and is piped on both sides.
Neck Seal
Composed of at least 6 strips of horizontally stacked leather.
Worn beneath the under tunic and extends to the top of the wearer's neck.
Pants
Plain black denim of regular fit.
The fabric has a uniform sheen.
Gloves
Form-fitting black leather (or leather-like material) with no visible colors, logos, or other markings.
The gloves do not have straps or buckles.
The tops have a minimum of two lines wrapping the top of the knuckles and vertical lines that intersect at the joints of the fingers.
Gloves have three lines sewn into the hand on the outer edges and two at the top of the palm.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Gloves have 3 lines sewn into the hand on the outer edges and 2 at the top of the palm.
Boots
Made of leather or leather-like material, black with a medium gloss shine.
No visible laces or zippers.
Four strips of vertical ribbing from the base of the ankle to the top of the boot.
Two straps at the top and two around the ankle, with rectangular buckles on the outer side.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Boots are made of leather.
Have a tapered sole at the front.
Buckles on the boots should be black.
The four horizontal straps excess (tongues) should be cut at approximately a 45-degree angle (top to bottom) and not be longer than 1 ½ inches.
There should be three vertical ribs (including four piped edges) of equal width.
There are 4 ribs (including 5 piped edges) from the sides of the boot starting at the ankle.
The heel of the boot has four pleats wrapping around the back of the boot.
The sole is flat.
Belt
Made of rigid thick leather (or leather-like material), black, approximately 4.5 inches wide.
Two 1/2 inch leather straps at the top and bottom.
Buckle is semi-gloss black, rectangular, and centered on the front of the wearer.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
The two half inch straps are weathered.
Lightsaber
A cross-guard saber, painted silver at the top fading to gunmetal.
A red wire at the side and a red disk at the bottom adorn the saber.
The saber is worn and shows visible wear and tear.
Optional Accessories
Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.
Mid Coat
Made from black wool or wool-like material.
Worn beneath the outer robe.
Has a military/officer-styled collar 1.5 - 2 inches tall.
Is 2-3 inches shorter than the outer robe.
OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
Made from a black twill natural fiber (ex: wool, rayon or cotton) with an irregular distressed pattern.
