The Dr. James E. Perdue Memorial Scholarship is in memory of the seventh president of SUNY at Oswego. Dr. Perdue's family has established this significant scholarship in recognition of his lifelong belief in the power of liberal education. This scholarship is also meaningful because Dr. Perdue personally knew that this kind of support can make the difference in enabling a student to pursue higher education. The scholarship will be awarded each year to a student enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences or to an undeclared student, with the first award to be made in the Spring of 2000. We are grateful to the Perdue family for establishing this scholarship and we hope that this fund will also become an opportunity friends, colleagues, and former students to support the educational ideals for which Dr. Perdue stood.
The virginia L. Radley Fellowship was created as a tribute to Dr. Virginia L. Radley, President Emerita, to laud her commitment to academic excellence and years of service to SUNY Oswego. The award, intended to encourage the pursuit of excellence at SUNY Oswego, will go to either an undergraduate History major or a student pursuing a graduate degree in History. The award is to be made on the basis of academic merit and leadership. The first award recipient is to be named in Spring 2000.
Alumni and friends are invited to help to build the principal for these two scholarships. Contributions may be made to either the James E. Perdue Memorial Scholarship or the Virginia L. Radley Fellowship, c/o The Oswego College Foundation, Inc., SUNY Oswego, King Alumni Hall, Oswego, NY 13126.
