This gift comes at an exciting time for the departments and programs in mathematics and the sciences. The science departments are at work on a common, problem-oriented approach to introductory laboratory courses. Mathematics and Physics have revised their major programs to include an applied focus, and program revisions are under way in Biology as well. This summer, Geology and Biology are offering new field research programs, enrollments are on the rise in Computer and Information Science, Meteorology, and Zoology, and Chemistry is anticipating innovations in its Biochemistry program. Through these and other initiatives, Math and the sciences will continue to provide preeminent programs for science majors, general students, and future teachers.
The Kaden fund will assist them in this endeavor. We are grateful to Jim Kaden and Debbie Adams-Kaden for their generous interest in the future of the science and math programs at Oswego. In the next issue of the Arts and Sciences newsletter, we will report on ways in which this fund has benefited our students!
