Eli Horst is an undergraduate student at SUNY Oswego studying Biochemistry with a specialty in marine ecology. He has worked as a lab assistant and volunteer for various projects to survey populations of marine specimen in Lake Ontario, and has aided the development of new primer sets for PCR analysis.
During his time studying at SUNY Oswego, Eli has contributed to the research sector of northeastern marine ecology in Lake Ontario by developing a way to assess the sex of endangered native Chinook Salmon. His research will go on to aid the preservation of such populations.
Eli is working on ways to quickly an efficiently identify the sexes of the endangered Lake Ontario Chinook Salmon. This ongoing project is being monitored for its hopeful incorporation into future ecological surveys of Lake Ontario.
