Description and Prerequisites
Simulation techniques; discrete and continuous change models, simulation languages, applications.
Prereq: CSC 241, MAT 215 (and all its prereqs)
Note: Since this is a 400-level CS course, it is assumed that you have taken (and passed) all your cognate courses.
Course Outline
This course will stress system analysis and modeling through the use of continuous and discrete-event simulation.
  1. Continuous time simulation
  2. Basics of discrete-event simulation
  3. Queuing models
  4. probability and statistics
    • Discrete and continuous distributions
    • Generating random numbers and random variates
  5. Data collection and analysis
  6. Model building
  7. Model validation and verification
  8. Case studies in modeling different types of systems (service, manufacturing, etc).
  9. Optimization
