ISC 290 - Selected Topics

I. COURSE NUMBER AND CREDIT:

        ISC 290 - 1-3 S. H.

II. COURSE TITLE:

        Selected Topics

III. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

        The study of selected topics in the area of
        information science will provide opportunities for
        the study of material not covered in current course
        offerings.  Special emphasis will be placed on
        emerging areas.  This may be repeated for credit with
        different content.  Topics vary from semester to
        semester.

IV. PREREQUISITES:

        At least sophomore standing and 3 hours completed in
        information science.  Other prerequisite(s) will be
        specified when the course is announced.

V. JUSTIFICATION:

        This course provides the student the opportunity to
        study topics in an area of interest in the discipline
        that are not ordinarily offered as a course.  This
        course will be taught on demand and listed as
        irregular in the course catalog.  Class size is a
        maximum of 35.  The course is not being submitted for
        General Education certification.  The Infomration
        science Curriculum Committee must approve the outline
        and bibliography of each course before it is offered,
        with specific reference to number of credit hours,
        and specific prerequisites.

VI. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

        This course will allow a student to develop an
        understanding of the topics under discussion in an
        area of information science not ordinarly offered.

        The course outline will vary from topic to topic.

VIII. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

        Lectures, discussion, and classroom demonstrations.

IX. COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

        Assigned readings, papers, and projects.

X. MEANS OF EVALUATION:

        Papers and examinations.

        No additional resources are needed.

        Varies with each topic.
