Homework (and Take-Home Exam) Evaluation Criteria

Homework which is not a regular programming assignment is evaluated over a nominal range of 20 points total (this means homework assignments may not all have the same relative weight in the calculation of a grade), consisting of:

Style and Clarity. 5 to 10 points.

One measure of a student's commitment to learning is the care which is used in the preparation of homework assignments.

  1. State the assignment name and number; due date; brief description; student name. Arrange in tabular format. 2-5 pts.

  2. Restate each problem, so it is clear as to what a solution is being given. 2-5 pts.

  3. Show work; state assumptions. Arrange in tabular format. 3-10 pts.

Correctness and clarity. 10 to 20 points.

Obviously, the solution should be correct. But if you can only solve part of a problem, or a related problem, partial credit may be given. But it must be clear as to what is being presented.

  1. Solution correctness. 5-20 pts.

  2. Clarity, conciseness. 5-10 pts.

  3. Completeness. The solution should address all aspects inherent in the problem. 2-15 pts.

Lateness.

Homework assignments and take-home exams are due at the prescribed time and place. Exceptions will be considered only when arranged beforehand with me, or in documented emergencies.
