Six Syllable Types: Vowel Team
1. Vowel Team Syllables
- Two vowels "team" together to make one sound.
- Vowel Teams: ee (tree), ai (rain), oa (boat), ea (beak),
ay (play), ow (snow), oe (toe), ie (tie).
- Vowel Teams: oo (moon, book), ou (couch), ow (plow),
oy (toy), oi (coin), aw (paw), au (vault), ew (crew).
2. Goals of Instruction: Read and Spell
- Closed syllables.
- Vowel-Consonant-e syllables.
- Open syllables.
- Vowel Team syllables: speech, toad, wait, stay, crowd,
tooth, cloud, etc.
- Vowel Team plus Closed, VCe, and/or Open Syllables:
complain, coastline, repeat.
3. Additional Considerations
- Prefixes: pre, dis, mis
- Suffixes: ful, less, ness
