Six Syllable Types: Consonant-le
1. Consonant-le Syllables
- One consonant plus le; the endings have an /ul/ sound.
- Consonant-le: ble (bubble), dle (candle),
cle (uncle), fle (ruffle), gle (bugle, jungle),
kle (ankle, freckle), ple (apple),
tle (bottle), zle (puzzle).
2. Goals of Instruction: Read and Spell
- Closed syllables.
- Vowel-Consonant-e syllables.
- Open syllables.
- Vowel Teams.
- Vowel+R.
- Consonant-le plus Closed, Open, and/or Vowel Team syllables:
handle, table, poodle, purple.
3. Additional Considerations
- "Soft" c and g when followed by e, i, y:
center, cider, bicycle, prince, change, ginger, gypsy.
- Prefixes: un
- Suffixes: able, ible, ion
