Role in the Curriculum

This course was introduced into the curriculum when the Linguistic program engaged in a major curriculum revision in the early 2000s, at the same time that the semiotics course, Cas444 (now Cog444), was introduced. Originally, this course was meant to serve as a mere elective for cognitive science majors, and as an attractive course for minors, particularly linguistics majors minoring in cognitive science. Not too long after it was conceived, the cognitive science major was changed to allow it to serve as an alternative to Phl309 (Logic, Language and Thought).
